Rev. Robin Ryan, CP, PhD

The listener's appreciation of God's infinite love will be increased through this course on Jesus and Salvation.
The awe of God's saving love found in the Bible from beginning to end is examined and how saints and scholars have interpreted that love from the Patristic period until today is carefully examined. Rev. Ryan presents the diverse approaches to salvation offered by the Father of the Church, like Irenaeus and Justin Martyr, and the great contributions of men like Anselm of Canterbury and Thomas Aquinas.
Rev. Ryan clarifies the teachings of theologians like Karl Rahner and Edward Schillebeeckx. He demonstrates their strenghts, potential and waknesses in a compelling manner. Contemporary thinker like Elizabeth Johnson and Jacques Dupuis are presented and the controversies surrounding them explained. Pius IX, Blessed John Paul II and Benedict XVI, as teachers of the universal Church, have contributed a great deal to this discussion of salvation. Papal teaching has especially opened up ways of thinking about how God's grace might work outside the borders of the Church.
These talks will give the listener a great deal to ponder and to resources needed to understanding the Church's profound and complex teaching on salvation inside the Church and outside the Church. Questions on the role of other world religions in God's plan of salvation are posed. Hard issues are not ignored but faced and the listener will be left with a desire to learn even more about the faith.
