Author: Frank Fletcher MSC

Have we westerners internalised the tyranny of mundane reason to police our innermost self? Have we in our conceptualist fixity hunter down and imprisoned the deer of our own soul? Can we understanding that despite our strongest effort soul will not be contained, and that it must not be?

Jesus and the Dreaming traces how an Australian Catholic priest's encounter with Aboriginal people forced him to confront the challenges and possibilities that Aboriginal spirituality presents to western Christianity. Fr Fletcher argues that in addition to a more authentic dialogue, a sympathetic understanding of the Dreaming will deepen our own religious experience and help renew modern Christian theology.

The cover shows a detail from The Last Corroboree by Aboriginal Catholic artist Richard Campbell.

Rev. Dr. Frank Fletcher is a Missionary of the Sacred Heart. He lectured in theology at St Pauls National Seminary Kensington NSW, and worked with the Aboriginal community of South Sydney for nearly twenty years. Fr. Fletcher is a life member of the Australian Catholic Theological Association.
