Saint Catherine of Siena

Saint Catherine of Siena has much to teach a world that is increasingly concerned about survival. Living in an age as violent and threatened as our own, she demonstrates the critical value of inner resolve in responding to an uncertain future. Her spirituality led her to confront the conflicts of her age and to become a peacemaker, counselor, spiritual guide and moral reformer while her life exemplifies the strength of character which flows from the self-knowledge that is derived from an experiential knowledge of God. While making no pretense of being a full scale biography, this invaluable study throws precious light — in language comprehensible to twenty-first century men and women — on the world in which she lived, the inner world of Catherine's mind and soul, and the approaches she took in challenging the Church and the world of her day.

About the Author: Catherine M. Meade, CSJ, PhD, a member of the Congregation of the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Boston, is chairperson of the History Department at Regis College, Weston, MA, where her emphasis has been on creative curriculum development and collaborative teaching. Her special interest in the history of architecture, city-planning, and women, both in the American and the Medieval world, led to her investigation of the influence of Siena on Catherine of Siena and eventually the life and spirituality of the woman herself. This is her first book for Alba House.
