The earliest friends of Jesus were the first to be caught by grace. In their encounters with the Lord they learned who they were experiences enabled them to come to a new awareness of God's presence in their lives through faith, communion and prayer. They saw endless possibilities open up to them as a result of these encounters with the Lord. We all learn and are challenged in much the same way as were the early Christians as we reflect on the Gospel message and its challenges to us today. In this time of a new evangelization, Alex Basile invites us to place ourselves in the midst of the biblical encounters related in the Gospels and to make them come alive for ourselves as we struggle with living and sharing the Gospel message today. The graces of the past are still being bestowed upon us now. The trials and sins of the past are still with us today. As the early disciples were touched by grace; so are we. As they began to see God differently; so do we. As they saw endless possibilities opening up before them by being in a personal relationship with Jesus; so do we.
