Volume Two in Fr. Buby’s trilogy on the Blessed Virgin Mary is a study of the texts from the Hebrew Scriptures which are cited in the New Testament with reference to Mary or are used often to speak of her in the tradition of the Catholic Church. Use is made of the valuable information garnered by the historical-critical method in the texts selected as the living testimony of the Church at prayer. Chapters treat of Mary as “Woman of Israel,” “Mother of Jesus,” “Daughter of Zion,” and “Woman of Faith Blessed Among Women.” Other chapters consider “The Hebrew Scriptures and Vatican II,” “Mary in Biblical References From the Hebrew Scriptures,” and “Mary in the Catechism of the Catholic Church.” Thus, we have in this volume a biblical, liturgical, and catechetical celebration of the Mother of Jesus written in terms that are accessible to scholar and lay person alike who are interested in deepening their love and appreciation of Mary from a biblical perspective.
